“When the soul of a man is born in this country there are nets flung at it to hold it back from flight. You talk to me of nationality, language, religion. I shall try to fly by those nets.”  –  James Joyce

Fly By Those Nets is a collaboration of citizens of Northern Ireland to have their voices heard.
As the guest articles which formed our #28DaysNI project showcased, we invite anyone regardless of your background or ability, to go ahead and write us an article. Doesn’t matter how mad it is or whether you’ve never written before. We will offer guidance and support and work with you to make sure your voice is heard.

We believe that Northern Ireland can truly move forward and part of the journey behind that is to change the conversation to one that isn’t held back by the same old debates on nationality, language and religion.

We want to be able to find a way to take all the grumpy cynicism about the place and turn it into something exciting and positive. There’s definitely something admirable in our ability to take the piss out of ourselves, and it’s great to be called out when things get too wanky, but there’s now an opportunity to be genuine and actually look to do something positive with our future. We all have a voice and we need to break out of our old habits of cutting ourselves down and doubting our abilities to make sure that everyone’s voice is both heard and considered.

Alongside the commentary offered by both our in-house and guest writers, we will be providing coverage and polling on current affairs with particular attention given to the coming NI Assembly Election.

If you’re interesting in joining in with the project, check out our Contact page.

We particularly encourage female writers and those who feel their voices aren’t normally heard as often in the commentary circles in NI to get in touch with us.
